With many issues today, comes various sites for activism and productivity. The issue of Wal-Mart has suddenly become the headlines in many states as the negative nature of the company is being highlighted. With more awareness, comes more activism. There are a variety of ways that people can become involved especially for those that feel that the current problem with Wal-Mart needs to change, not only for their own communities but around the globe where activism is less common. I have included in this page links and current programs that are available to you as a consumer to participate in regarding this subject.
-
wakeupwalmart.com/action and wakeupwalmart.com/community – This site is for the anti-Wal-Mart population. Activism ranges from signing up on the website and receiving information regarding Wal-Mart, starting your own neighborhood group, writing letters to editor’s in local newspaper to receive exposure, educating the community, adopting Wal-Mart’s in your neighborhood (changing your Wal-Mart store by store with your help). There are also links for mini-campaigns that focus on specific areas in Wal-Mart that you would like to change (i.e health care, Wal-Mart policies etc.). You can also link up with others in your community to stop Wal-marts from coming to your town.
-
walmartwatch.com/battlemart – website off of walmartwatch.com. Provides links and support/advice for those that are thinking of waging war against Wal-Mart. Provides legal information regarding zoning and legal building in your community, tips to starting your own community group, information regarding the current issues with Wal-Mart, provides information about groups all around the nation that are currently fighting Wal-Mart and their status, and allows less avid supporters to provide monetary contribution to the websites activist program.
-
